Radical Middle Way proudly presents the “Framing British Muslims, what's your story” – a celebration of film by and about the most dynamic faith community in Britain.

 

Framing British Muslims will present the following awards: 

 

The FBM Award for the best overall entry in the “Your Story. Your Way” category. 

 

The Young Voices Award for the best submission by a young person in the “Young Voices” category.  

 

A Special Festival Citation in recognition of the winner of the “90 SecondTake” category.

Your Story

 

The awards will be presented at the gala closing of the Insight Festival in Manchester on Sunday 4 December 2011 at the Zion Arts Centre in Hulme. For ticket and more information visit the Inishgt Film Festival Website.

 

How to Enter:

  1. Carefully read the FBM Rules contained in the FAQs.

  2. Complete the online submission form and attach your film in one of the following formats (AVI, FLV, MPEG and MOV). 

  3. You will receive an e-mail confirming that your film has been received and entered. If, upon review, it is deemed that your submission does not comply with contest rules we will contact you directly. 

Contest Details:

  1. We’re looking for videos that tell the stories of British Muslims and their communities. We are also looking for films that see, interpret and present the world through Muslim eyes – these can be stories about anything, as long they are informed by your experience with or as a Muslim in Britain. Films can be submitted by anyone regardless of their  religion, race or ethnic background. Filmmakers must live in, be residents of or citizens of the United Kingdom. We want these video stories to change perceptions, deepen understanding, build bridges and challenge assumptions.

  2. We’re accepting submissions from 24 May 2011 to 31 October 2011 (see below [enter hyperlink] for more details on submissions and judging).

  3. Films must either be in English, or be accompanied with English subtitles or translation.

  4. Entrants for the “Young Voices” category must be below 18 years of age.  Other categories will accept entries from individuals 14 and older. To be entered intot he Insight Film Festival, entrant to Framing British Muslims must be 18 years of age or older, or have their film co-submitted with someone 18 years of age or older.

  5. Accepted submissions can be previewed on the site and visitors can comment and rate films. These comments and rating will inform the decision of the judges; however, the decision of the judges is independent of ratings or comments received. You can begin rating and commenting as soon as the first entry is accepted.

  6. Rating and comments will close 10 November 2011.

  7. Entries for the “90 second Take” category must be no more than 90 seconds in length.

  8. Entries for the “Young Voices” category may not exceed 5 minutes in length.

  9. Entries for the “Your Story, Your Way” category may not exceed 30 minutes.

  10. After the contest, these video entries will be used to promote FBM and its goal of reshaping the mainstream narrative about Muslims in Britain. Check the FAQ for full details. 

  11. Films will be judged by a jury of award winning filmmakers and media visionaries with prizes awarded in three categories.

  12. All films submitted to Framing British Muslims by 7 July 2011 will be simultaneously by entered into the Insight Film Festival, a groundbreaking international celebration of faith and film.  Finalists of Framing British Muslims will automatically appear as part of the Official Selection of the Insight Film Festival and be be screened at a gala event on 2 December 2011 in Manchester.


Deadlines:

  1. All entries must be received by 31 October 2011.

  2. Entries received by 7 July 2011 will be entered into the Insight Film Festival automatically.

  3. Winners will be announced to the public on 2 December 2011 at a gala screening in Manchester’s Zion Arts Centre.

Judges:

 

Films will be judged by a jury of award winning filmmakers and media visionaries with prizes awarded in three categories. All films submitted to Framing British Muslims will be simultaneously by entered into the Insight Film Festival, a groundbreaking international celebration of faith and film.  Finalists of Framing British Muslims will automatically appear as part of the Official Selection of the Insight Film Festival and be be screened at a gala event on 2 December 2011 in Manchester.
